I read this in just a few short hours, and I enjoyed every page!! You get to know the truth behind so many historical scandals, and the beginnings of what would become the most iconic duo in Chris Colfer’s literary universe: Mother Goose and, well, her goose。I 100% recommend this to fans of Chris’ books, or just fans of fairy tales in general!

Hahahahaha!!! I found a loophole!!! So, I was 3 books behind on my reading challenge (yikes) so I decided to reread this 100 page book! It was actually surprisingly good though。 For a book thats 100 pages long, Mother Goose actually had character development which is something some 500 page books lack。 It also covered important topics like women's rights, racism, and LGBTQ+ rights which is awesome。 It was also overall just funny, which is always a bonus。 But yeah, great book, also only took me a Hahahahaha!!! I’m not sure how interesting or appropriate this would be for kids。 It quickly goes over some major historical events that I don’t think most kids would know about enough to get the humor。Also。。。stuff like this make it seem an awkward choice for kids“I wish I could tell you more about it, but what happens in Woodstock stays in Woodstock。 There’s no way Walt Disney can turn my life into a family movie after this week。”

It was really fun and easy to read。 I enjoyed it。

A really good side story that goes along with the Land of Stories series。 It was a quick read about Mother Goose and her memories from around the world。 Really enjoyable。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I shouldn't have had high expectations。 It wasn't bad, it just wasn't on the level I expected - or wanted。 It was a little funny in some places。 The beginning was the most interesting part。 It felt a little repetitive ("My friend。。。my old friend。。。。my friend。。。。") The cover is hilarious, especially in the back and front picture。 Some of the things she apparently started were interesting, although I wish she had more of a solid claim than a passing off-hand comment here and there。 WE DON'T KNOW T I shouldn't have had high expectations。 It wasn't bad, it just wasn't on the level I expected - or wanted。 It was a little funny in some places。 The beginning was the most interesting part。 It felt a little repetitive ("My friend。。。my old friend。。。。my friend。。。。") The cover is hilarious, especially in the back and front picture。 Some of the things she apparently started were interesting, although I wish she had more of a solid claim than a passing off-hand comment here and there。 WE DON'T KNOW THE FAIRY GODMOTHER'S REAL NAME!?! This is the funniest companion book of this series! Mother Goose has a written a book about all the things she has done in her time。 Sit back, grab onto your seat and hold on for a tale lol

I liked this book。 Personally it was a little boring at points but other wise it was good。 This book talked a lot about history。 If you like history and want to read a short book you should definitely read this。

This was a book that didn't know what it wanted to be and seemed to fail at what it ended up being。 Sadly。I have enjoyed books in the Land of Stories but this spin off just didn't do it for me。 I'll have to go back to the main Land of Stories books。 Colfer, how could you do this to me?All right, so what did this book set out to be? It started out as seemingly a bit of lighthearted fun using the character Mother Goose from fairytales, and aimed at children。The book then tells us it's a memoir but This was a book that didn't know what it wanted to be and seemed to fail at what it ended up being。 Sadly。I have enjoyed books in the Land of Stories but this spin off just didn't do it for me。 I'll have to go back to the main Land of Stories books。 Colfer, how could you do this to me?All right, so what did this book set out to be? It started out as seemingly a bit of lighthearted fun using the character Mother Goose from fairytales, and aimed at children。The book then tells us it's a memoir but we can't be "too picky" when it comes to history。 That is a nice disclaimer, but it doesn't mean you can get away with anything and everything。 Mother Goose's attempt at a memoir means we do a sort of trek through history; an excuse for Colfer to namedrop a lot of historical events and famous people and have a bit of fun with that。The set up was not too bad and it did set the tone for frivolous fun - Mother Goose winning Lester, the gander。 Although is talking about gambling debts and hangovers totally appropriate for the audience? It might be a bit better for an older audience, but how many adults or young adults are going to read a book that's more like a chapter book, and is this superficial and unreliable on the history, with Mother Goose as the main character? Some parents might not mind, others would。I think, though, as we trek through history, the jarring gets worse and worse and you're wondering who this is written for。We encounter the Black Plague, Joan of Arc, Leonardo Da Vinci, etc。I think some of the jokes for instance about Amelia Earhart, or Joan of Arc and her hormones, small kids just wouldn't get。 It is a joke for the adults。The discussion of the Black Plague could have been a good opportunity to educate about about a period and the power of the nursery rhyme and compassion, but it is skated over too quickly to have a lasting impact as Mother Goose runs off to another adventure。Many of the "namedrops" rely on a lot of previous knowledge many young kids wouldn't have about historical figures。 They do not provide enough info to educate even briefly on these characters, On the other hand, the style isn't really geared towards adults either, with children's language and quick nursery rhyme references, and not much substance。As the story goes on, the excerpts get shorter as if Colfer felt as if he wanted to deal with most events/people less and less and wanted to just write a funny para on them and then skip on so this effect is amplified。Right near the end, Colfer delivers us two pieces on Martin Luther King and marching for LGBT。 I realise these are historically important events but they are delivered in such a way that rather than be just funny, Mother Goose simply preaches to us in no uncertain terms about what she thinks。"I've made a lot of mistakes in my time and committed many wrongs, but I'll always stand on the right side of history。"I don't really mind what social cause it is - I find books that try to tell you what cause to champion so blatantly inside a story pretty annoying。 I do think if you want to provoke comment or discussion on an issue in fiction, it can be better to show it and it is actually more powerful。Colfer could have written (for example) a story about Mother Goose learning to be tolerant/accepting/caring of a person of colour/LGBT after learning about their life and understanding more about them as a human being。 I think this would be far more powerful than this rather clumsy attempt to drive his message home, and would allow people to really contemplate his message as it would be something they could probably relate to。I know this was meant to only be a short book of bits but it did not have a clear focus as to what it was trying to achieve inside that - that was my feeling - and instead tried to cram in miscellaneous messages and jokes for all types。I would have been more interested if we'd started with the anecdote of the gander and maybe the story of the nursery rhymes and perhaps fewer events in history but more substance to each。 。。。more

I read all the Land of Stories prequels after finishing the original series and I loved this one more than the rest! I would say it’s for a younger audience but if you love the Land of Stories just as much as I did: this books is perfect for you!

Teen Student Volunteer (15):I enjoyed learning about the problems and highlights of each era Mother Goose visited, highlighted by the comical conversations and her thoughts。 The way Mother Goose conveys emotions is effective and it is like the reader is living her story。 This is a buy for me。 Teen Student Volunteer (15):I enjoyed learning about the problems and highlights of each era Mother Goose visited, highlighted by the comical conversations and her thoughts。 The way Mother Goose conveys emotions is effective and it is like the reader is living her story。 This is a buy for me。 。。。more

This book was astounding and inspirational。 It's just such a shame it's so short。 The illustrations are so well-drawn and Mother Goose is a universal role-model。 Reading The Land of Stories left me with the impression that Mother Goose was a drunkard, but in her diaries she is so much more than that。 She's been there for every key moment on the right side of history and seen and done so many awe-inspiring things with Lester by her side。I would recommend that parents read this book first before a This book was astounding and inspirational。 It's just such a shame it's so short。 The illustrations are so well-drawn and Mother Goose is a universal role-model。 Reading The Land of Stories left me with the impression that Mother Goose was a drunkard, but in her diaries she is so much more than that。 She's been there for every key moment on the right side of history and seen and done so many awe-inspiring things with Lester by her side。I would recommend that parents read this book first before allowing their children to read it。 Because this book is all about Mother Goose there is heavy drinking, gambling, death and disease; and the last chapter comes across as pushy。 I appreciate Colfer including a chapter on LGBT, but unlike World's Collide the subject takes up a whole chapter。 。。。more

I loved this book! It was hilarious and full of adventures only Mother Goose would get herself into。 I think Chris Colfer really captured her spirit。 It was a short book I read in one sitting and laughed all the through。 There were some sad part, but Colfer really dealt with that well。 You don't have to have read the Land of Stories series to enjoy this book!
